Choose From Traditional Bitumen & Asphalt Or Modern EPDM, Liquid Rubber & GRP Fibreglass

Where a complete new roof renovation is required, rather than a simple repair, many customers opt for one of the newer flat roofing materials such as liquid rubber, EDPM or GRP glass reinforced polycarbonate (fibreglass). The latter can even be made to replicate the appearance of a lead roof and can even be walked on. We can help you decide which type of roof system and roofing material will be the best for your needs. The timelapse video here shows the installation of a new flat roof, complete with ‘warm roof’ insulation blocks under an EPDM rubber membrane to provide a watertight and durable roofing solution. EPDM is suitable for both commercial and residential flat roofing applications.

2 - 3 Layer Torch-On Bitumen & Mineral Felt Flat Roofing

Today’s modern bitumen and modified bitumen roofing felt technology has much better resistance to cracking and UV damage, alleviating the need for a gravel ballast on the top. All layers are reinforced with polyester weave sandwiched in the middle of the felt, giving it incredible strength. Each felt roofing roll is melted using heat it onto the layer below.

Typically it’s applied either as a 2 layer or a 3 layer system which can include insulation, and topped with a thick 4-5mm capping felt layer. The thick top layer often has a coloured mineral finish or can have a silver solar reflective UV finish. Typically lasts 10 –  20 years, and sometimes 30 + years. Video courtesy Hidroset.ro

Single-Ply EPDM Flat Roofing Membrane

EPDM roofing membranes were pioneered 50 + years ago and have an proven a record of superior durability and long-term weather resistance. EPDM single-ply roofing solutions suit both domestic and commercial flat roofing projects, both large and small, on new roofs and roof renovation projects. It has a lifespan of 30 – 50 years.

It can be installed on a variety of roof surfaces, including overlaying existing roof surfaces. EPDM is widely used on garage roofs, leanto’s, whole houses, large commercial and industrial properties. It provides the perfect waterproofing layer for green roofs and terraces, extending it’s exceptional performance and adaptability.

GRP Fibreglass Flat Roofing Laminate

GRP fibreglass roofs have been around for 30 years and are very popular. This truly jointless roofing material is one of the best flat roof solutions available, with dedicated roof resins and factory made trims, making it suitable for complex roofing projects. A GRP flat roof will last for 20-30 years with little visible sign of wear other than slight colour fading.

GRP costs more than EPDM rubber depending on finish and thickness. Good for roofs with a lot of detailed shapes and trims, it’s lightweight, easily cleaned and available in any colour, making it a very attractive roof. Easily patch repaired, it’s also strong, damage resistant, and can be walked on, especially when installed with an optional anti-slip coating.
